Clal Centre, Jerusalem
- Planning
Prof. Dan Eytan, 1968-1982
- Design Concept
Clal Centre is an office and commerce complex, built in the years 1968-1982, between Jerusalem city centre and Mahne Yehuda market. The design aimed to create a flow of pedestrian traffic between the city centre and the market by developing commerce and cultural activity along the way. The original plan was only partialy built: the commercial centre as a three level spiral around a central atrium covered with a glass roof, and above it several office towers.
The Urban goals were never achieved; the connection to the city center was never developed as planned. The project's ambitions of uniting the city centre with the market area never came to be, and as a result it has become run-down and one of the least popular locations around the city centre.
